Tarryn Reeves' Story

All the trauma I experienced during childhood in Zimbabwe tipped me to the extreme of needing excessive structure. Even to the point that, if somebody changed the restaurant we were going to for lunch, that would send me into a tailspin of anxiety.

I was always told what an acceptable profession would be for a woman. So, I went to Uni and I studied what was thought to be an acceptable profession which started out as Radiation Therapy and ended up as Criminology. After Uni I got a high paying job in my early 20s and I bought my first house, I thought I was “killing it,” like, really successful!

But on a soul level I was deeply unhappy, and I didn’t know why.

I later discovered that it was because I always felt the need to be doing and could never just be.

I was at the point of not even being able to sit through a Netflix TV episode. Seriously, I would have to pause it every 10 minutes and get up to go and do something. It was literally, physically uncomfortable in my body for me to sit still for that long. I just couldn’t do it because my mind would play this relentless story of “You need to be doing something. You need to be doing something. You need to be achieving something.” So, I would get up and go and do the laundry or make a bed or start cooking and then I would come back and do another 10 minutes in front of the TV to ‘relax’.

I discovered yoga and I entered into it the Western way; as an exercise class that kind of makes me feel good and everyone else was doing it so I followed along. Little did I know that, on a deeper level, I was finding my way home. I then heard about the benefits of meditation, and tried to but it was really hard! I was like “This is bullshit! I can’t meditate. Who even meditates!” because my mind wouldn’t shut up and I couldn’t sit still so I thought I was failing and I didn’t like that. I thought “well I’m not good at this so I’m not going to do it.” I kind of threw a tantrum.

Then I hit what looked, at the time, to be rock bottom.

I got really sick and was diagnosed with major depression and chronic anxiety. I quit my toxic job. Got a temp job and was made redundant — then, a week later found out I was pregnant. And it was like a jolt to my system, I felt the Universe reach down and shake me out of the dark hole I had placed myself in. My soul was screaming at me so loudly I couldn’t hear anything else. It was like “Tarryn stop feeling so damn sorry for yourself and pull yourself together!” At that moment, I felt my own power and decided to take a stand.

I felt like it was my mission to model what I want the world to look like for my daughter.

 I don’t want her to be told what she should and shouldn’t be when she grows up. As long as she isn’t hurting herself or anyone else, she can be whatever she wants, and I will support that. This was the exact opposite to my experience growing up. I then looked at how I wanted to parent as well and again, it turned out that it was quite different to how I was raised.

I dove right into my realigned path with gusto and started my business when my daughter was 6 weeks old. I love to read and am a lifelong learner. I knew I wanted to study spirituality and business, so I did: I studied yoga, meditation, divine feminine mastery, marketing, soul coaching, reiki and so much more!

Then, I started feeling the pressure to niche in my business, and it was really scary! Out of the blue, a spiritual entrepreneur called me and needed my support as a Virtual Assistant and so I got to see behind the scenes of her business. At that point, I realised that I could niche down to spiritual entrepreneurs and that fed my passion as well. I continued to meet so many amazing women and joined lots of inspiring Facebook groups and I had access to all this amazing content which inspired me even more.

The more I practiced everything I was learning on myself, the more I realised that more people need to know about this.

I realised that we DO have a choice. I kept being told “Don’t be so naïve Tarryn. You go to work, you come home, you eat, you sleep, you repeat and then you die. That’s what life is.” I was like, well, that’s the most depressing thing I’ve ever heard! My soul just refused to believe that! My soul was shaking the cage screaming NO, it doesn’t have to be this way! It made no sense to me – at all.

Why Me?

I took a stand. I created freedom in my own life.

Freedom from my cultural beliefs, from my familial beliefs, freedom from the structures that were around me. I actually went out and created my own freedom, my personal freedom and then freedom in my business. I designed my dream life and have brought it into reality.

That is why I am the expert. Everything I had done in my past leading up to now and going forward, I have created the next level of freedom for myself. This is available to you too. I truly believe we all have a gift to bring, a part to play in this world.

After years of following the expectations of others to follow a traditional path, Tarryn discovered that conventionality was not for her. After being made redundant (and pregnant at the time), she realised that she now had the opportunity to start creating a life that was truly fulfilling for her. She established her own successful business when her daughter was just 6 weeks old.
